Let’s be real. Women back in the Victorian era were killing the game – crochet-like fabric, ribbon and lace details, demure high-neck ruffled blouses, and velvet. Victorian romance is real, and I, for one, am thrilled that Fall fashion has fallen under its love spell. While the classic Victorian style involves a ton of layering, designers this season have tapped into the dark romance era, but have put their own spin on it – layers still exist, but there is a streamlined structure to the clothes so you aren’t swallowed in fabric, and there’s an effortless sense of femininity.

So how do you bring the 19th century into circa right now? Start small by introducing textures such as velvet and chiffon, or if you feel like being bold, go for it! To keep the look polished, and avoid looking like you’re trying out an early Halloween costume, I recommend sticking with one period-inspired piece, and keep the rest simple. In the above look, I chose to incorporate a modern element and paired a Victorian inspired dresswith some flatform oxfords from Vince. However you choose to wear it, the era-influenced trend will lend the perfect dose of romance to any outfit. I’ve linked some other Victorian inspired pieces below for some other ideas!

This Nasty Gal blouse is a subtle and feminine way to incorporate the trend.

These lace up Frye boots could be paired with a dress, skirt, or jeans!

This satin and pearl choker will add a small does of Victorian to any outfit.

Elegant ruffles, a high neckline, and crochet inserts keep this floral print blouse on trend.

The intricate detail on these suede ankle boots gives them a pretty edge.

The soft pink, ruffles, and high neckline of this bodysuit lend a softness to the typically dark palette of the era.

Until next time,
