You know that comforting feeling you get when you slide into those perfectly worn in boyfriend jeans – well, now it’s time to have that same feeling, but with a jacket! The 90’s style resurgence is still going strong, and the oversized denim jacket has made a triumphant return. While the leather jacket still has a place in my closet, I have a feeling I’m going to be reaching for this lightweight layer as my go-to-topper as we cruise into the warmer months. The beauty about this denim piece is that it still goes with everything, but adds a bit of edge and a vintage grunge vibe to any outfit – wear it over a hoodie and a mini for an extra layer, throw it over your shoulders to toughen up a floral maxi, or roll up those sleeves and pair it with a classic white tee for a laid back and effortless look. Any way you wear it, the oversized denim jacket is the perfect layer that offers a fresh spin on an old summer classic, making it a must-have piece.
In terms of fit, you can go full-on oversized for a complete “I literally just raided my dad’s closet kind of look” (think sleeves hanging past your hands and shoulder seams half way down your arms), or I chose to scale it back just a bit because the oversized look is a trend after all, so I wanted to get something that wasn’t super exaggerated, and that I could still see myself wearing years down the road. The ex-boyfriend jacket from Levi’s is perfect – the body is just slightly oversized, and the denim itself has a vintage feel to it with distressed areas on the cuffs and trimmings of the jacket. Although I am usually a small in most tops and jackets, I went with a medium for a little extra room to add those layers in other seasons.
