Back to school commercials are in full swing, and the other day I even saw Halloween candy in the store – it’s too soon! While the days of Summer are slowly passing us by, it seems that everyone forgets that it is, in fact, still Summer. While I also cannot wait to pull out jackets and boots for my favourite season, Fall, I also want to make sure I don’t forget about the present, and make an effort to soak up Summer.
So get out there! Explore, climb a mountain, sit on a patio, jump in a lake, or go for a picnic. For me, something I wanted to do this summer was take advantage of the mountains being only an hour drive away. I say it every year, yet every year time seems to slip away so quickly, and before I know it, I’ve only been a handful of times. Priority for next month, noted.
I did however check something else off my list of summer activities that I’ve always wanted to do. I went canoeing! I haven’t been in a canoe since I was a kid, so it was fun hopping back into one. I don’t own a canoe, but Moraine Lake offers rentals by the hour so it was perfect (Lake Louise does as well, but the rates are more expensive). If you’re looking for a relaxing and calming day trip, Moraine Lake is the spot. The water is so still and is the most beautiful blue colour, it’s hard to describe. There are lots of nearby trails that you can go hike, plus there’s a lookout that you can climb in about five minutes that will give you the best views of the lake and the surrounding 10 peaks. While it’s beautiful to just sit and take in your surroundings, there’s a different feeling that washes over you when you’re on the water. It was so peaceful, and such an amazing way to see the outdoors.
I’ve also included a recipe for some mango energy bites. Energy bites are super easy to make and I find them to be the perfect snack. Each bite has some fibre, protein, healthy fat, and natural sugars – who knew so much could be packed into a little ball! The recipe card for them is below.
Let me know if you give them a try, and enjoy the rest of Summer!
Until next time,
