Choker | Sweater | Jeans | Shoes | Purse

I mentioned on my Instagram (@dear.courtney) that one of my goals this year was to shop my own closet, and find ways to wear pieces more frequently. So in the spirit of staying accountable to my style resolution, I decided to take a necklace I bought around the holidays for a special event, and found a way to make it work in an everyday look. I actually really loved the outfit – turns out mixing special occasion pieces into casual outfits is easier than I thought! So today I’m talking about why you should stop saving clothes for special occasions, and I’m sharing some ideas on how to style pieces from last nights outfit, today.

Don’t know where to start? No problem, there are a few easy switches you can try out: change up your shoes (swap heels for sneakers or a chunky boot), change up your hair and makeup (fresh faced and natural is a good way to tone things down), or change up your jewellery and accessories (opt for simple studs or an oversized tote bag). Have a sequin turtleneck bodysuit you love rocking with a mini at night? Why not layer it under a crewneck sweater and slip on some boyfriend jeans. Looking for a way to get more wear out of a velvet or silk slip dress? Pop a basic white t-shirt over your head, and pair it with a bomber jacket and crisp white sneakers. As you can see, the key to integrating fancier pieces is actually quite simple, it’s all about balance and confidence. Who says you can’t wear a sexy slip dress before the sun goes down? We spend money on purchasing items we love (and look great in them I might add), so lets wear them!

I hope this inspires you to get a little clever, and take a second look at some of those “special occasion” pieces you keep hidden in your closet.

Until next time,

Courtney
